Music Ministries

We love good music—vocal and instrumental, sacred and secular. Music used during worship ranges from classics and much-loved hymns and anthems to contemporary works. In addition, throughout the year we offer a variety of special musical events that are open to the community.

Whether from the organ or piano, by the bells, brass or strings, through congregational or solo singing, the music we incorporate into our worship is one more type of praise to God. Every piece selected and performed is part of the tapestry of our worship service, supporting the themes presented in the message, the prayers and scripture. If your spiritual gifts include instrumental or vocal music, we invite you to share your talents.

Music Director Jacob Lowry received his Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from Sam Houston State University and has experience in Music Ministry, Choral Conducting and as a soloist. Jacob works as a Middle School Choir Director and Teacher in Lawrence. His wife, Laura, is studying at UMKC in the Master’s Program of the Conservatory of Music.

Organist and Pianist Phyllis Curtis  has served as organist and director of music at various churches in Manhattan, Wichita, and the Kansas City area. She earned both a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Master of Music degrees from Kansas State University. She has taught elementary classroom music in the North Kansas City, Manhattan, and Wichita public schools, and is a licensed Kindermusik instructor.

Chancel Choir

The variety and quality of vocal music offered by the Chancel Choir reflects the passion for music of each singer and their collective dedication to sharing that passion with the community. While some of our Chancel Choir members are working toward degrees in music from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, and others have music degrees and professional experience, formal vocal training is not required to participate. Please consider sharing your talents and experiencing Christian fellowship through music.

Wesley Handbell Choir

The music shared by the handbell choir adds a special resonance to the tapestry of our worship experience. The Wesley Bells play at the 10:45 service several times each year and for special events. The handbell choir uses traditional English handbells and handchimes (Schulmerich and Malmark).
